The Causeway, Land of Art and Invention

Divided up by a web of deep river valleys, the highlands of the Causeway have historically been a difficult to traverse place that resisted a more typical governmental structure. The region has a relatively peaceful history, although in the time since the Cataclysm, a great number of deadly creatures have come to roost in the riverside cliffs. Six major cities have developed across the region and function as regional centers of commerce. In the modern day, these City-States have a loose alliance with each other, and work together to maintain the trade routes between themselves and their bordering countries.

No City-State in the Causeway is known to enforce any specific religious behavior, but the region is culturally dominated by an immense respect for the Principle of Creation. Because of this overwhelming cultural tendency, it is rare to see any degree of organized religion not dedicated to Creation.

A brightly colored region, the inhabitants of the Causeway are highly inventive and very proud. The region’s wealth comes from it’s advanced farming and its constant innovation, and skilled inventors or artists often develop something of a celebrity status within the region. Jewelry is extremely common among all brackets of society, though the quality of the pieces tend to be viewed as an indicator of status. Outsiders tend to stand out here, and if their dress is plain or uninspired they might experience some derision from locals, though such views will often be veiled by more diplomatic language.
